If you are confronted with above, "Thermal Spraying" will solve the problems!

What is thermal spray?

Add high value to your products with surface finish technology

"Thermal spraying" is a technology of bombarding ceramics, metal, cermet and others at melted or semi-melted form at high velocity on to the substrate to form coating layer. The material collide the substrate and it flattens and rapidly cools assuring firm bond one after another to form the coating surface. As the particle is of negligible size to the substrate which rapidly cools at impact and heat dissipates which enable substrate temperature to rise minimum.

An important surface treatment technology that produces high added value

There are several types of thermal spraying and classified by type of material you wish to use and heating method. Present day thermal spraying not only adds abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, non-electric conductivity properties to the substrate but is able to add various performance characteristics which will add value to your product, which this surface coating is.

Difference of thermal spray to other surface treatments.

In comparison to other surface treatment, thermal spay will create high quality coating film.

As thermal spraying is conducted in dry condition, so substrate is not a question. Furthermore, choice of metal, ceramics (oxides and carbides) are plentiful. Also, there are few thermal spraying style available and classified with material used, type of heating energy used. Present day thermal spraying not only adds abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, non-electric conductivity properties to the substrate but is able to add various performance characteristics which will add value to your product, which this surface coating is.

Plating in a plating tanks may have foreign particles and plating solution concentration will vary from start of plating to finish which may be the driver for uneven and not preferred coating performance. Needless to say, some substrate will not accommodate wet plating bath.

Depending on the formation of the coating, you have choice of metal, ceramics, polyester and others.

Coating film thickness control in microns is not possible so mechanical work as griding is required to attain tolerance.
As works does not need to be in a plating bath tank, size is not a problem for thermal spraying.
Coated film is rapidly created. For an example, for High Speed Flame thermal spray, 9.0kg/hour and for Cold Spray, over 20kg/hour is possible.
As the process is dry, substrate weak to humidity too is possible.
Of course, thermal sprayed coating is not flawless but due to this characteristics, coating can follow the substrate deformation.
Higher voltage resistance performance is possible to obtain by filling the porous areas.

Choice of thermal spraying technology at Plasma Giken

Plasma thermal spray

Plasma thermal spray

Wide range of material is sprayed at atmospheric pressure including ceramics

■Functional ceramic thermal spray will ensure electrical insulation, abrasion resistance, thermal barrier.
Thermal spraying metals will allow electric conductivity, allow gripping with surface roughness adjustment.

Arc thermal spray

Arc thermal spray

Wired metals are used for thermal spray material.
Rustproofing steel bridges is common but we give magnetic and corrosion resistance properties to rice cooker pans.

■Functionality:
Rust prevention, corrosion prevention, surface roughness adjustment

High Velocity Oxy-Fuel spraying (HVOF)

High Velocity Oxy-Fuel spraying (HVOF)

Will form high bonding strength cermets so requirements for use at robust atmosphere is most fitting.

■Functionality:
Abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance

Detonation Thermal Spray

Detonation Thermal Spray

Within combustion chamber, oxygen and gassed fuel is mixed, compressed and fired to enable thermal spraying material to fly at a very fast speed to acquire dense and bonding coating

■Functionality:
Abrasion resistance, improving gripping force

Cold Spray

Cold Spraying

Unlike other thermal spraying system, minimal change to material characteristics due to heat, minimal oxidation is possible. It will form a coating by bombarding metal powder to the substrate.
